Sun Life Extended Health Care

The Sun Life Extended Health Care plan is available to all regular full-time Canadian employees and their eligible dependents. This plan is designed to supplement the coverage provided by your provincial government health plan.

Coverage Highlights:

• No Deductibles
• Overall Plan Maximum: Unlimited

Hospital & Prescription Coverage:

• Hospital: Semi-private room coverage
• Prescription Drugs: 80% coverage (Mandatory generic substitution)

Paramedical Practitioners:

• Coverage up to $750 per person per calendar year, including:
  • Acupuncturist
  • Chiropractor
  • Chiropodist/Podiatrist
  • Dietician
  • Psychologist/Social Worker
  • Massage Therapist
  • Naturopath
  • Osteopath
  • Physiotherapist
  • Speech Therapist

Items & Services:

• Orthopedic Shoes: Up to $300 per calendar year
• Orthotics: Up to $300 per calendar year
• Hearing Aids: Up to $500 every 60 months
• Private Duty Nursing: Up to $10,000 per calendar year

Specialized Coverage:

• Out-of-Country Emergency Expenses: Up to $3,000,000 per person per incident (maximum trip duration: 60 days)
• Gender Affirming Services: Coverage for both Core and Enhanced services, up to:
  • $5,000 per person per year
  • $20,000 per lifetime (See FAQ for details)

• Fertility & Surrogacy Services: Coverage for fertility treatment (IUI, IVF etc), fertility medications, and surrogacy services for those looking to build their family
  • Fertility Drugs: $2,400 lifetime maximum
  • Fertility & Surrogacy Services: $7,500 lifetime maximum
